Another bear destroyed by garbage and unsecured pet food in Fernie

June 12, 2012 by bearawarefernie

This bear just shedding his winter coat was lured into town by unsecured garbage and pet food.  Initially he was just checking things out and being curious.  He became bolder, found garbage in backyards, then ventured onto decks, accessed pet food outside and in kennels and eventually was reported approaching kids and chasing pets.  The destruction of this bear doesn’t solve the problem, another bear will move in.  Locking up garbage, feeding pets indoors is a proven method of preventing the needless destruction of bears.
