Alberta bear travels to Fernie in search of food (garbage and birdfeeders)

Ear tagged Alberta bear travels to Fernie

Removing bears (relocation or destruction) doesn’t solve the problem.  The bear in the photo with an Alberta ear tag has made his way into the Elk Valley. This bear was getting into garbage in Alberta, was ear tagged and has been reported getting into garbage stored on decks, under carports and getting into birdfeeders in Fernie.  This is living proof that relocation doesn’t work.  Locking up garbage, bringing in bird feeders and feeding pets indoors are proven methods of preventing the needless destruction of bears.
