Bear sighting in James White Park Fernie

August 28, 2012 by bearawarefernie

Tuesday August 28.  A bear was seen on the trail by the ball diamond eating berries earlier this afternoon.  Berries are a fine natural food source for bears.  If you are around berry patches be prepared and expect to see bears.  Did you know that a hungry bear can eat up to 100 000 berries in one day?

Remember to secure your garbage and other attractants and ensure that our bears are given the opportunity to feed on natural food such as berries rahter than garbage and other attractants found in our backyards.  By being Bear Aware, everyone benefits, including the bears!
